Ever wondered how much you’d get paid to to wander around Westeros or Essos, potentially half-naked or covered in fur, pretending to be madly in love with your sister or riding around on a dragon?
It does sound like a pretty sweet deal to be honest, aside from the whole incest part of it.
As it’s one of HBO’s most successful shows ever, it makes sense that the stars are also some of the best paid in the business. Apparently, ahead of the next season show execs and the cast have undergone some serious negotiations resulting in some pretty hefty pay rises for the actors. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the big dogs have instated a tiered system to establish which stars make the most dosh.
So, in Tier A we have:
It might not come as a surprise but Kit Harington, Peter Dinklage, Emilia Clarke, Lena Heady and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau are all in the top tier. Their exact wages haven’t been confirmed, but Deadline suggested that Tier A actors were raking in $500,000 an episode. That’s pretty much five times what Dinklage and Heady were earning back in season 4, so not too shabby at all.
And, in Tier B…
In the lower pay bracket there’s Natalie Dormer, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams – which comes as a bit of a shock as they’re some of the shows faves? Equal pay issues, anyone? The Hollywood Reporter hasn’t disclosed how much these actors are earning, but sources have confirmed that they’ve also received a raise ahead of the next season.
And what about the other guys? We just don’t know, but we hope the tier A guys buy every single round in the pub.
