One brand’s strategy to crush its competition has unfortunately taken a dark turn. Rather than relying on traditional advertising techniques, Reese’s Puffs has resorted to all-out intimidation and is doxxing anyone who eats competitor’s cereals on the back of its boxes.
Wow. This is definitely a bold new strategy from Reese’s Puffs.
According to a statement from Reese’s Puffs, any person who eats another type of cereal will have their photo, full name, and home address printed on the back of a Reese’s Puffs cereal box. Apparently, whether you commit a large offense like buying an entire box of Raisin Bran or a small offense like eating a single bowl of Froot Loops, Reese’s Puffs is ready to leak your private information in order to teach you a lesson.
With a strategy like this, people should definitely think twice the next time they go to the cereal aisle.
“When you buy a cereal that is not peanut butter-chocolate flavored, you are making a conscious choice to stand against our brand,” said head of marketing at General Mills, Bruce Lawrence. “We’re starting a registry of non-Reese’s Puffs customers to hold people accountable for the products they buy. No one wants those dissenters to get hurt, but if our most loyal customers choose to seek revenge against them, we can’t stop them.”
