A judge has granted Amber Heard – the now estranged wife of Johnny Depp – a domestic abuse restraining order against her husband, just days after she filed for divorce.
Claimingthat Johnny was “verbally and physically abusive to me” over “the entirety of our relationship”, Amber submitted to court a photograph of herself with a bruise on her face.
She claimed in a statement that this was sustained when Johnny threw an iPhone at her.
“I endured excessive emotional, verbal and physical abuse from Johnny, which has included angry, hostile, humiliating and threatening assaults to me whenever I questioned his authority or disagreed with him.
He has a short fuse.He is often paranoid and his temper is exceptionally scary for me as it has proven many times to be physically dangerous and/or life-threatening to me. Johnny’s relationship with reality oscillates, depending on his interaction with alcohol and drugs. As Johnnys paranoia, delusions and aggression increased throughout our relationship so has my awareness of his continued substance abuse. Because of this, I am extremely afraid of Johnny and for my safety.”
She detailed two instances of alleged abuse, one on the evening of the 21st April – Amber’s 30th birthday – when Johnny got home towards the end of her party, drunk and high. This led to an argument, and a fight began.
“[Johnny threw]a magnum size bottle of champagne at the wall and a wine glass on me and the floorboth of which shattered. Johnny then grabbed me by the shoulders and pushed me onto the bed, blocking the bedroom door. He then grabbed me by the hair and violently shoved me to the floor. Johnny was also screaming and threatening me, taunting me to stand up. After several minutes, Johnny stormed out of the condominium, but not before tossing aside and breaking nearly everything in his path.”
The couple then reportedly didn’t see each other for a month – until the 21st May (the day after Johnny’s mother died). Johnny allegedly became paranoid about something, and demanded that Amber call her friend, iO Tillet Wright:
“As my call to iO went through on speaker phone, Johnny ripped the cell phone from my hand and began screaming profanities and insults at iO. I heard iO yell at me to get out of the house. Johnny then grabbed the cell phone, wound up his arm like a baseball pitcher and threw the cell phone at me striking my cheek and eye with great force.
Johnny charged at me, insisting on seeing my face. He taunted me, challenging whether or not the cell phone actually hit me. He then forcibly pulled back my hair as I attempted to stand up from the sofa. I then yelled out Call 911hoping it would be heard by iO who was still on the phone. Johnny continued screaming at me, puling my hair, striking me and violently grabbing my face.”
Police attended Amber and Johnny’s home that night, but told People that they found no evidence of a crime, and at that point, Amber hadn’t wanted to file a police report.
In light of her statements, the judge granted Amber the domestic abuse restraining order, which will remain in place until the 17th June – their next court date. He also agreed that she be allowed to remain in the couple’s penthouse home, but denied her requests that Johnny be forced to attend anger management classes, and that he be kept away from their dog, Pistol.
Johnny and Amber were married for a little over a year, and didn’t sign a pre-nup. Amber is reportedly seeking $50,000 in spousal support per month, and has requested that Johnny pay her legal fees.
Although neither Johnny nor his lawyers have responded to this claim of abuse, the day before Amber was granted a restraining order, they released the following statement:
“Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life.
Hopefully the dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly.”
Fans are now calling for a boycott of Johnny’s films – most notably Alice through the Looking Glass, which was released only yesterday.
