Airbrush Artist Gives Sick Kids “Tattoos” To Make Hospital Life More Fun

There are few things in this world that are more tragic than a sick child. At an age when they should be playing and laughing, some kids are instead forced to spend their time in a hospital ward. Being hospitalized can involve being poked with needles, placed on freezing cold X-ray/MRI machines, and taking medications with various unpleasant side effects – it’s bad enough as an adult, now imagine going through it as a kid.

That’s why I absolutely love it whenever I hear about someone who does something to bring just a little more joy to a child in the hospital. Take these fraternity brothers, for example. When they realized their frat house was directly in view of a little girl’s hospital window, they started using their roof to send her messages.

Now, we can add New Zealand artist Benjamin Lloyd to this list of heroes.

He recently announced on Facebook that if he received 50 likes, he’d give airbrush tattoos (totally safe and non-permanent) to all the kids at the Starship Children’s Hospital in Auckland.

People on Facebook recognized a good thing when they saw it, and the post didn’t get 50 likes – it got over 400,000 and counting!

Lloyd was overwhelmed by the positive response, and was thrilled to honor his pledge.

He’s been airbrushing for 10 years now, but only recently started doing temporary tattoos.

He started out doing it mostly for fun, and never thought his suggestion to do them for kids would take off the way it did.

Clearly, the kids are thrilled with their custom ink.

“Nothing brings me more joy than boosting kids confidence with a custom tattoo,†says Lloyd. “The only bad thing is that they don’t want to take a shower afterwards.â€

Lloyd does airbrush tattoos on grown-ups too. All of this girl’s “tattoos” were done under an hour!

Besides people, Lloyd also applies his artistic talents to cars …

… murals …

… and just about anything else you could think of.
